Kaykaus
I, or Kay Kawus I was the ruling Sultan of Rum from 1211 to 1220. The best way
to expand this aspirational imperial authority was to physically inscribe it
onto the new monuments of Kay Kawus' time. His tomb in Sivas, Turkey captures
the architectural advancement of his era, mirroring the artistic imagination of
an imperial political body. The panel above Kay Kawus' tomb vividly anticipates
the rest of the story, depicting the entangled stories of different communities
in Anatolia.
