Octagonal stars are quite widely used in the Anatolian architecture. The shape itself and its use predates the Islamic civilization as it was evidently used by the Sumerian and Akkadian civilizations with various renditions. What is inspiring is the shape itself as it outlives the political history, almost proving its eternal ability to surmount the test of time.
